What does it take to be a good puppy owner? What should you feed them, how often should they go outside, and what can you do to minimize the number of accidents in the house? These are all questions that need answers if you want your new pup to stay happy. If this sounds like something that interests you, then read more here! This guide will cover everything from choosing the right dog for your lifestyle to preventing behavior issues.

Knowing Yourself

colarBefore you get to know your little puppy, you need to go on a journey of self-discovery to understand more about yourself. Ask questions about yourself like, “Are you an active or sedentary person?” “Do you have time to train a puppy?” “Can you handle housebreaking and chewed-up shoes?” If the answer is no, reconsider getting a dog because owning one isn’t for everyone.

The Right Breed

Not all breeds of puppies are created equal! Some dogs need more exercise than others, and some are better suited for living in an apartment. Do your research and find a breed of dog that will fit both your personality and lifestyle. For example, getting a Jack Russell Terrier or a German Shepherd would be the perfect choice if a runner because they need lots of exercises.

Puppy-Proofing Your Home

It’s never too early to start puppy-proofing your home! If they want to chew, you need to ensure that all of the things they might eat are not accessible. You can use baby gates, X-pens or create a safe room for them with only toys and supplies inside (i.e., no shoes). Puppies are naturally curious creatures, so it’s dangerous if they chew on electrical cords or eat something poisonous!

Teaching Them Manners

happyPuppies aren’t born knowing how to sit or stay, so you’ll need to teach them proper manners. The earlier they learn these tricks, the better! It’s much easier for a puppy to learn good habits before bad ones have been established. Once your dog gets older, it becomes harder and takes longer because old habits are hard to break – just like with children.

Vaccinate Them

It’s not always fun and games for owning puppies; you have to make sure they are up-to-date on their vaccines! Puppies need to get vaccinated against rabies, distemper, and parvo. Some vets also recommend getting your pup vaccinated for Lyme disease, Bordetella (a respiratory infection), and hepatitis.

Feed Them a Good Diet

Just like human babies, puppies need to be fed a balanced diet. Don’t give your puppy table scraps; they are not suitable for them! It’s important to find high-quality food right for their age and breed. You can always ask the vet about what you should feed your dog while they’re still growing because it will impact their overall health later in life.…
